ETC used in my RILS “Garage Band”

The ETC I used in my project is called garage Band. Garage Band is a digital audio work station that records edits and plays music. It only comes on the mac computer. For my project I only covered Loops. Loops are digital sounds. These digital sounds come in a various sounds. In Garage Band 11 comes with some new features, these features are lessons for the piano and guitar. The lessons for the instruments are given by famous artist.  These artist go through a private lesson with the user on one of their famous tunes. Another cool feature added to Garage Band is the Magic Garage Band. This feature allows you to sample different types of music sounds such as Jazz Latin Blues Country Rock and Funk.  The user can sample and audition this sounds to help build a song.  Below I’ve provided you what each of the application start up fonts look for Lesson app and the Magic Band app.

Magic Garage Band app

Lessons app

The most intriguing thing I loved about this application is all of the creativity you’re able to do with it. Garage Band also allows you to export audio, record movies clips and import mp3s and create songs. Garage Band is a fun and exciting tool and I’m excited to learn more about it’s use.

BP9 RILS Commenting and Linking

The RILS assignment I liked was the lesson about Assorted Governments. This used the Simple Organizer breaking the students up into groups to learn about different governments.  The technology used in this lesson was Simple Diagrams.  This tool allows students to create graphic diagrams.  Another cool part about this  lesson I like was the inclusion of cooperative  learning. The students were divided up into small groups.  Each group looked at powerpoint about that talked about Southern and Eastern Asia.  If you want to find a blog that’s fun and creative take a visit to Assorted Government, here is the Link

http://educatorstudio.com/lessons/assorted-governments

The second lesson I observed on Educators studio was the E-learning lesson. This dealt with the students becoming the teacher. I just loved the idea of student taking on the teacher role because it allows them to collectively understand the learning and teaching process. The students acquire facts about a specific topic by listening to and watching an online education module.E-Learning for Kids is an online platform dedicated to teaching students a variety of topics in various fields. This lesson is great and well put together. All of Blooms Taxonomy modules are demonstrated in this lesson. Another great aspect about this lesson, which relates to my field is the collaborative group effort. Many of the lesson I teach in music involve the students as teachers and presenters, just in another form. So if your looking for a lesson that has great presentation and collaborative effort check out students become teachers with e-learning it’s great! Here is the Link

BP8 RILS Reflection

In evaluation of  the Rils scenario I would first like to say that I truly enjoyed working in garage band. This music application allows me to create and expand on many different types of music.  The ETC lets the user create music that fun and innovative.  One great aspect I particularly I  liked about garage band was the ease of how to use it. It lets you drop, drag and click on different sounds.  This technology seems to be the cutting edge when it comes to digital music.  Another feature I explored in garage band was the import of instruments. The interface of all GarageBand instruments is limited to a few key parameters, simplifying their use. The available parameters were carefully chosen to provide maximum impact and flexibility, making it easy and fast to create great sounds. The lesson I created was designed to get the user making music fast. I tried to use something that was quick easy and fun. The best thing I love about garage band is it’s compatibility with other digital audio work station. Garage band is compatible with Logic, reasons and pro tools. After I finished my song I imported it to pro tools for more editing. The only set back i could report about the scenario is I wish I had more time to talk about Garage Band’s features.  Overall I really enjoyed teaching this applications and I loved all of it’s capabilities and uses.

What I learned from my learned was I could have been clearer since my target audience was a beginner, I have to keep in mind the level of the people who I’m teaching. I had a little technical difficulties in the middle because the video seemed a little out of sync, always be aware of the technical issues when creating things for a public viewing.  Keep pace and making content easy to manage is something very important to do. Key word organization.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am currently a full time student at Full Sail University, I’m using this degree to advance my knowledge in the field of Technology.
PROCEDURE

I will explain the many different uses of loops inside of Garage Band. We will use this information to build on how to create an 8 to 16 count song. From here I will provide how this works in various time signatures groups. After we have looked at the different combinations of loops we will crete a song based on this format.

ASSESSMENT

There are two things I’m going to evaluate them on Creativity and Rhythmic originality.

SOCIAL PARTICIPATION

One of the activities I’m planning to do is have the students create a song that will be preformed on their instruments. I will group the students according to their instrument and have them write a complete piece of music in the correct time signature.

*Write the song
*Preform it
*Evaluate how to improve on it

TECHNOLOGY

Garage Band

REFLECTION

Each students will create a Podcast, and within this Podcast the will share their projects and reflect on how the students songs are coming along.

AUDIENCE

My taget audience will be 7th Grade Band students and Music Educators.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

The learner will make connections with prior experience playing their instruments from last year in Band Class. Each student already understands how to read music. They will connect their understanding of reading and playing music to the digital information in Garage Band.

PE3 IMovie Essential Training for Beginners

In this blog we are going to look at  editing. I’ve really enjoyed working with I movie up until this point. One of the  cool things about iMovie is learning how to be a great movie editor. I love the ease and control of how iMovie transfer video footage from place to place to control. The next thing I will be looking at is how to control and edit clips.  The benefit of this tutorial will be mastering the iMovie editing tools. I want to make sure that I’m able to get the best quality out of my videos A cool feature on iMovie is the slider feature, This feature allows you to break down your clips so they can be edited. The slider feature is located on the bottom right hand side in iMovie, I’ve provided what it looks like. The slider can take 24 clips and break them down to 12. based on the clips.

This feature breaks down  the clips and looks like this

After you do this simply highlight the clip select file and split clip

This allows you to use different clips, the cool things about this is you can drag those clips over and place them in the events folder. This allows them to go back into different folders.

Also viewing  is something that really cool.  To do this you just select view and scroll down to the different functions.

My experience learning this tool will really help me through the program. I felt that all of the features and functionality really worked well, The advantage of this tools is it gives you high-tech and quality video editing skills right at your figure tips.  iMovie is a simple and easy tool that allows you to do great quality work.  I would recommend anyone that’s serious about filming  take a look at iMovie. Hands down it’s the best.

In conjunction of using iMovie I would like to post my certificate of completion

And here is the video I did

PE2 IMovie Essential Training for Beginners

In part Two of this blog we will explore more features and functions of iMovie.   We will begin with how to select project to use for your edit. You first begin scrolling up to file select new project and name the project and then pick the widescreen and shot rate. After you have selected this just hit create.

After I have named the project I’m going to select a frame to work with in the edit window.  In the clip below I’ve provided what it looks like when you drag the clip in the edit window.

I took a portion of the clip that highlighted and dragged it up to left hand corner to be edited out to work on.  One of the cool things about the features in iMovie is the usability and ease of control.  Clips are easily managed by dragging portions of what you want to work with.  On the left bottom is the events menu, it provides the user a order of each of projects as they are imported in.

Next, I’m going to talk about the buttons in the edit window, The gray strip in the middle is called the tool bar area, if you look to the left you see a camera, a set arrows and a slider. The slider can be moved from left to right to control the size of the image. Below I’ve provided an example of what it looks like small and big.

If you keep looking from left to right the first box on the left has a star with a box in it this is just another drag tool, you simply highlight the footage you want and click it and it moves to the edit window.  Before and After picture

The other controls provide features that can be used to add voice background audio levels music pictures from iPhoto and photo booth.

The next blog will conclude my features tutorial of iMovie, so stayed tuned for move cool stuff.

PE1 iMovie 11 Essential Training for Beginners

I found the I movie training vary helpful and beneficial. What I will be giving is an example of is how to  do certain functions in iMovie. I movie is a application that helps edit import and design video footage.  This blog will take you step by step and show you all of the advantage features included with iMovie.  After reading these post you should get an idea of how to function certain things in iMovie.

The first thing I did was import video from my desktop to iMovie.  I first copied the exercise files from lynda dot com and had them saved to my desk top. Next I opened iMovie from the applications dock on my mac. It should look like the picture below

Select iMovie, next retrieve the files saved on your desktop to put in i movie. It will look like this

After you scroll up and click on file  and scroll down and select import then move over to movies and click on this, it will take a minute to import after that it should look like this

Another important piece of information is know whether to copy the files from your desk top and move them in iMovie. It is important to remember to copy the files from your desktop to iMovie. This is done so you can put the movie in iMovie to edit.  When you open up your edit window to move your files keep the copy file selected so you can keep them on your hard drive incase you need them again.

As I am doing this blog I’m posting and pasting along.

BP6 Making Music using Digital Loops in Garage Band

The objective of this product is to create a song using digital loops.  The goal of this product is to help students learn how to make song.  I will try and make sure that all of the lessons are fun and simple. I feel the best way to do this is provide a game type situation so students can retain the information. I’ve provided a link to another interactive game situation involving music theory.  I want my development to resemble this interactive game.

game.html

I want my learners to creativity in song creating.  I feel that this will help them understand how music is put together. Once the’ve put loops together  each student will compose a song.  The song will contain 8 measure.  Each measure must have the correct number of beats in them.  Students will choose from 4/4, 3/4 ,or 2/4 time signatures.  After the’ve created their songs, they will  recored and video them to be post in an ETC application to be commented on and discussed. This application will be Schoology .

The 3 things I want them to learn is

* Learn how to Create Music

*Understand how it’s Made

*Be Creative  and Imaginative in their own creations

BP5 Tonara Music that Listens to you

The ET I choose this time is called Tonara.  It is a digital music reader that follows the performer.  The interesting thing about the program is that there different speeds that it can go to.  I’ve provided a video to help explain how it works.

The thing I like most about Tonara is the ability to help the musician learn the music.  Often times the most difficult part about playing an instrument is following along with the music.  Tonara app provides the learner a great and unique way to learn difficult music.  Another cool feature it provides is the changing of speed. It will listen to you and change the way the music is being played.

As it related to navigation you simply go to the iTunes store and download the music. Load it in Tonara and begin to play.  It provides a digital scroller that moves from left to right while you are playing a song.  It’s usability is very easy to control.  A handy feature that it also engages in is the turning of the pages. As the music is being played you simply follow along and it automatically turns the page.

So if you want to use a ET for music that helps you read and learn quickly I suggest you take a look at Tanara.  It’s available for acoustic instruments, voice and some strings.  Tonara the world’s first interactive sheet music.

BP4 Comment and Link

Learning and exploring the Etc called Popplet. Popplet is a digital organizer. It combines video and pictures to help organize content.  The great about this product is the way it sequentially put pictures and work together. Below is a example of what the application looks like

My goal as a fine arts teacher is to find other ETC application and connect them in my setting.  If I were to use this I would try and find a way to add this setup in Music History. I like to connect material sometimes and I feel this application would be great to connect real world to music.  Pro and cons, The only thing that would be difficult  about this would me getting the students used to controlling it.  If you would like to explore more about how Popplet could work in your class please follow the url link http://tomdraa3.wordpress.com/2012/04/01/bp2_popplet/#comment-7 and examine it.
